About
Clinical Psychologist, Richmond Melbourne
Rebecca (Bec) Cole (she/her) is a Clinical Psychologist and the founder of REKNDL Psychology, based in Richmond, Melbourne.
Bec's approach is deeply collaborative and trauma-informed. She aims to create a space where clients can safely explore their experiences, relationships, and identity — with a particular emphasis on emotional literacy, self-compassion, grief processing, and the capacity to hold complexity.
Bec works integratively, drawing on evidence-based approaches tailored to each person's needs and presentation. Her primary modalities include Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and parts work — alongside Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, Emotionally Focused approaches, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). For relationship counselling, Bec uses Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFCT; Sue Johnson model).
She has a special interest in working with neurodivergent adults and takes a neurodivergence-affirming approach to both therapy and assessment, offering adult ADHD, autism, and combined ADHD and autism (AuDHD) assessments in Melbourne.
Bec has worked across private practice, community mental health, hospital, youth mental health, and research settings — including at Phoenix Australia (the national centre of excellence in posttraumatic mental health), headspace Hawthorn, and the Royal Children's Hospital. She holds a Master of Clinical Psychology (La Trobe University, Provost's Commendation) and a First Class Honours degree in Psychology (University of Western Australia), for which she received the Australian Psychological Society Prize and the H.L. Fowler Prize.
Bec is also a trauma-informed yoga teacher — an experience that has deepened her understanding of the body-nervous system-emotion relationship and informs how she integrates somatic and body-awareness approaches into her clinical work.

Clinical Psychologist, Richmond Melbourne
Adult ADHD & Autism Assessment
Comprehensive adult ADHD and autism assessments in Melbourne, conducted by a Clinical Psychologist.
Bec has particular experience with complex and intersecting presentations, including the intersection of gender diversity, trauma, ADHD, and autism. She frequently works with adults seeking a later-in-life diagnosis — people who have often been missed, misdiagnosed, or dismissed in traditional assessment contexts.
Assessments are thorough, neurodivergence-affirming, and tailored to individual presentation. Each assessment draws on recognised semi-structured diagnostic instruments — including the DIVA-5 and the Autism Clinical Interview for Adults (ACIA) — and is conducted in accordance with DSM-5 criteria. All assessments include a comprehensive developmental history, a collateral informant interview (where available), standardised psychological questionnaires completed prior to the assessment, interpretation of results, a feedback session, and a comprehensive written diagnostic report (6–8 pages), provided following the feedback session once finalised. Where required, an NDIS-tailored diagnostic report is available as an upgrade in place of the standard report.
A GP referral is not required to proceed with an assessment. Following the assessment, a copy of the written diagnostic report can be provided directly to your GP. If you would prefer a brief GP summary letter in addition, this can be requested following the feedback session — please speak with Bec about whether this is relevant to your situation. Your GP can use this documentation to support a referral to a psychiatrist if medication is something you wish to explore following an ADHD diagnosis.
In some cases, Bec may continue to work with assessment clients in individual therapy following the assessment, or draw on assessment findings to inform ongoing therapy for existing clients.
First appointments are generally available within 1–2 weeks, with assessments typically completed within 3–4 weeks from that point, subject to availability. Suitability for assessment is discussed at the initial phone consultation.
While Bec's preference is for in-person assessment where feasible — given the additional observational capacity this allows — telehealth assessments are conducted to the same clinical standard and are a fully viable option for clients unable to attend in person.

Relationship Counselling
Relationship counselling at REKNDL Psychology uses Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a structured, evidence-based approach developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. EFT works through an attachment lens — helping people identify and interrupt the negative cycles that keep them stuck, and build deeper, more secure connection in their relationship.
REKNDL Psychology is accepting referrals for relationship counselling from June 2026.
Who relationship counselling is for
Relationship counselling at REKNDL Psychology is open to all relationship structures and configurations, including couples in monogamous and non-monogamous relationships, polyamorous relationships, and close platonic relationships such as long-term friendships and business partnerships. Bec takes an affirming and non-judgmental approach to all identities, orientations, and relationship structures, including LGBTQIA+ relationships and trans and non-binary clients.
REKNDL Psychology serves adults only (18+).
About EFT
EFT is one of the most well-researched approaches to relationship therapy, with a strong evidence base demonstrating meaningful and lasting improvements in relationship satisfaction. It is structured, collaborative, and grounded in attachment theory — the understanding that our need for close, secure connection is fundamental, and that many relational difficulties stem from disruptions to that sense of security.
A typical course of EFT involves 12–20 sessions over approximately four to six months, beginning with weekly sessions and gradually spacing out as the work progresses. EFT is structured around three stages:
Stage 1 — De-escalation(approximately sessions 1–5). It involves identifying and understanding the negative interaction cycle — the pattern of conflict, withdrawal, or disconnection — and beginning to interrupt it.
Stage 2 — Restructuring the Bond(approximately sessions 6–13). It involves reshaping how each person expresses their needs and responds to the other, creating new patterns of connection in real time.
Stage 3 — Consolidation(approximately sessions 14–20). It involves reinforcing new relational patterns, building confidence in the relationship, and preparing for the end of therapy.
Session structure
Session 1 — Initial joint session (90 minutes)
Sessions 2–3 — Individual sessions within the relationship counselling process (50 minutes each)
Sessions 4 onwards — Ongoing joint sessions (75 minutes)
The individual sessions in Sessions 2 and 3 are a standard component of Stage 1 EFT, allowing Bec to understand each person's attachment history and experience privately before returning to the joint work.
Please note
REKNDL Psychology does not offer concurrent or subsequent individual therapy at REKNDL Psychology to either person involved in relationship counselling, and cannot offer relationship counselling to existing individual therapy or assessment clients or their partners.
